About Joining
Membership of Ilkley and District U3A is by annual subscription. Joining is a straightforward matter of filling in an enrolment form and sending it together with the appropriate fee to the Membership Secretary. The Annual Membership Fee entitles you to attend monthly meetings and to join outings and tours. It also entitles you to receive our Newsletter and the National U3A magazine. Answer hereThere are no educational qualifications and no age limits. All we ask is that you are no longer in gainful employment, and are keen to continue to learn.
AnswerThe only limiting factors are any 'timetabling' clashes and your personal stamina. Of course, you may not be given a place on every course that you ask for (see next question) but you can certainly fill your week if you so wish.
AnswerWe try very hard to give all applicants their first choice of course. If this is oversubscribed, a number of criteria are applied to ensure that places are allocated fairly and that everyone gets a place on at least one course. Last year, 97% of members achieved their first choice. Many courses are repeated, and you well may be successful the following year.
Answer If there are vacancies on a course you may join midway at the Leader's discretion. (Course fees are not normally reduced)
AnswerIf you have not been successful in gaining a place on the course of your choice, and if you decide that you do not wish to become a member, we will return your cheque. Otherwise you will be refunded for the courses that are full.
AnswerDate of application is just one of a number of criteria that we take into account and may not be crucial; but it could sometimes tip the balance and it is very helpful to the Allocations Group to have an early indication of demand.
