SUMMER COURSES 2008
BRIDGE PRACTICE
This group will continue to meet over the summer for players with some
experience (not beginners) so they may enjoy the game and practise and
consolidate their skills without expert tuition.
Fridays 10.00 to 12.30 p.m. starting 11 April for 12 sessions. Leader: Bob

BRIDGE IMPROVERS
This course will continue for a Summer term for those people who want to improve
their play.

CYCLING
Informal group rides in our area during the spring and summer months. Meeting
points, distances to cycle etc will be decided by the group.

T'AI CHI
The T’ai Chi groups will continue to meet over the summer at the Riverside
Gardens, next to the car park, unless it is raining. Details to be discussed and
confirmed with all groups at a later date. It is hoped to continue meeting up until
August.

OPERA VISITS BY COACH
Marjorie Naylor has again agreed to lead a group to attend the Opera North
productions at the Leeds Grand Theatre in the 2008-9 season. Although
performances do not begin until autumn you must apply now so that full details
of the forthcoming operas can be sent to you and so that tickets can be ordered
as soon as they go on sale. There is no charge for the course but please send a
S.A.E. Bookings for performances and transport must be paid for in advance.

OCCASIONAL OPERA
This group is for those who only wish to go to some of the operas at the Leeds
Grand Theatre and are willing to share car transport. Additional drivers are most
welcome. Tickets for this group are also purchased as soon as the programme is
published and must be paid for in advance.

CROQUET
Croquet restarts on 29 April or 1 May 2008, with the opportunity to play both
association and golf croquet on Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays until 9
October. For details about the venue for season 2008 and also the overall cost of
being a member of the croquet group, will new members please contact Richard
Lorimer: 01943 603561 before completing the course application form.
Beginners are particularly welcome as expert tuition on the rules of croquet and
also coaching will be provided to help develop your skill and technique. All playing
equipment is provided, but you will need your own comfortable shoes with a flat
sole (no heel), for example, trainers.
There will also be opportunities to take part in friendly matches, competitions and
visits to other croquet clubs: Ripon, Dales at Akebar, Pendle & Craven at Earby;
also a day at the international test match Great Britain v USA at Heaton Park
(near Manchester), reputed to have the finest croquet/bowls lawns and pavilion in
the world (outside California), a legacy from the 2002 Commonwealth Games..
There will be a pre-season meeting for new and existing members, starting at
2:0pm on Tuesday 22 April (venue to be confirmed).
For new members there is a course fee of £9. This entitles you to play on all
three days (weather permitting) from 11.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. on Tuesdays,
Wednesdays and Thursdays, if you so wish, until 31 August 2008 when the
course membership may be renewed through to 31 August 2009. Leaders:

OUTDOOR SWIMMING
For those interested in river swimming, either at Ilkley or Burnsall – obviously
dependent on weather conditions!

TABLE TENNIS
Due to popular demand all three Table Tennis groups will continue into summer.
The sessions are great fun and even if you have not played for many years your
standard will quickly improve. As well as being a highly sociable activity, Table
Tennis helps to keep us both physically and mentally active. An ideal opportunity
to get yourself in peak condition for the summer holidays.
Mondays: 10.00 to 12 noon for 10 sessions, starting 7 April and finishing 23 June
at the Clarke Foley Centre, Ilkley (closed Mondays 5 and 26 for the May Bank

SCRABBLE (SC2)
New Members Welcome
New members will be very welcome. At present there are just over twenty in the group but there is plenty of room for more. The group teaches Scrabble to beginners and those who want to refresh their knowledge of the game. The aim is to develop skills and scoring abilities in a relaxed and friendly environment. The Summer term offers a good opportunity to those who have attended other classes in the Autumn and Spring terms. Have fun keeping those little grey cells in tip-top condition.
Open Afternoons
There will be an 'Open' meeting on Wednesday 19th March for anyone who would like to come along and dabble in Scrabble for the afternoon. Come to the Games Room of the Clarke Foley Centre at 1:30pm. QWe hope to have a similar event on Wednesday 18th June.
